Growing up in rural Virginia, Fred Williams had a strong passion for hunting.  However, following his return from U.S. Marine Corps service for thirteen months in Vietnam (wounded, decorated), he gave up hunting.  Seventeen years later, while in the hospital recovering from a serious operation, his wife gave him a book called “African Safari, the Last Adventure”.  Ninety days later Fred and his wife were in Zimbabwe on their first Safari.

He returned from Zimbabwe and began selling several small businesses he had formed, and began prolifically hunting throughout the world.  Fred has been on over 80 major hunts, including 24 African Safaris, on six continents, taking more than 250 species.

In 1987, he formed GSAR Outfitters.  During the mid-1980s there was very little reliable information available about international hunts.  The internet did not exist, and Safari Club International was new, and extremely small.  So Fred began compiling detailed information about each country in which he hunted, and not just about the outfitters he hunted with.  He took extra days and visited as many outfitters as possible, learning everything he could about their operations.

That knowledge and experience gained through the years were the basis on which GSAR Outfitters has become a small, but highly respected and internationally known hunt consulting and booking firm.

Fred spends hours making sure you are totally prepared in every aspect of your upcoming hunts.  When you return from, say for instance, the rain forest of central Africa where you hunted with pygmies for the elusive Bongo, you can say “No Surprises!”.   The unknown, and potential difficulties, have been anticipated and dealt with before your departure.

Fred only books hunts with the top outfitters in each country, with whom he has hunted at least once, usually several times.  He has literally Been There, Done That!

Fred spends a great deal of time as a volunteer for many hunting organizations, but is particularly active with Safari Club Int’l., with more than a decade as a National Director.

So for detailed, personal advice, and service for your next international hunting or photo safari adventure, be it a quick trip for plains game in South Africa, or your quest for the African Big Five, or a “gentleman’s” hunt in Europe, contact Fred Williams who has the knowledge and experience that very few others can offer.
